Established in 1955, Tokai Village achieved development hand-in-hand with advanced technology as the birthplace of atomic energy in Japan and, putting top priority on the ensuring of safety, has implemented the building of a community in which people can live without anxiety. At present the residents and the local government are cooperating in the promotion of community development based on the Tokai 21st Century Plan.

平成6年	4月	都市計画道路「東海駅五反田線」が開通
平成7年	10月	第1回東海I?MOのまつりを開催
平成8年	4月	デイサービスセンター東海と東海村在宅介護支援センターがオープン。東海中学校体育館が完成
平成9年	3月	東海村役場新庁舎が完成
平成10年	3月	原電・東海発電所が営業運転停止
平成10年	10月	笠松運動公園ほかで「ゆうあいピック茨城大会」（第7回全国知的害者スポーツ大会）を開催
平成11年	9月	株式会社ジェー・シー・オー東海事業所で国内初の臨界事故が発生
平成12年	4月	自主的・自発的な地域活動を奨励するため、「いきいき地域活力助成事業」を導入
平成13年	5月	姉妹都市交流会館が開館
平成13年	10月	新消防庁舎が開庁
平成14年	8月	笠松運動公園ほかで全国高等学校総合体育大会（インターハイ）開催、東海村はホッケー会場となる
平成15年	3月	県道日立東海線・留大橋が開通
平成15年	10月	石神小学校新校舎が完成
平成16年	3月	役場本庁舎がISO14001の承認を取得
平成16年	4月	総合福祉センター「絆きずな」がオープン
平成17年	2月	リサイクルプラザとうかいがオープン。東海村発足50周年記念式典を開催
平成17年	3月	レンタサイクル「エコりん」がスタート
平成17年	5月	「第13回環境自治体会議東海村会議」を開催
平成18年	4月	「東海村デマンドタクシーあいのりくん」が本格稼動
平成18年	5月	新村立東海病院が開院
